Weng Chunxian was born into a teacher's family in Shantou, in South China's Guangdong Province, in 1963. After Weng graduated from senior high school, in 1981, she applied for a job at Hong Kong Kaida Toy-making Compayn, the first Hong Kong -based firm in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. She wrote, and passed, the employment exams and joined the firm as a member of its first generatino of employees. Women employed by the company were called "Kaida Girls."
